Who is Bishop Athanasius Schneider?

Athanasius Schneider was born in 1961 in Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia) to deported German parents; In 1973 he emigrated to Germany and in 1990 he was ordained a priest. In 1997 he obtained a doctorate in patrology from the Augustinianum (Rome, Italy). Since 1999 he has been a professor at the Major Seminary of Karaganda (Kazakhstan, Central Asia) and since 2006 he has been Titular Bishop of Celerina, Auxiliary of Karaganda and Auxiliary Bishop of the archdiocese of Santa María d'Astana. He is also Secretary of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Kazakhstan.
