THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL
After the crucifix, the scapular of the Virgen Del Carmen and the Detente del Sagras do Corazón de Jesús and the medal of Saint Benedict, the Miraculous Medal It is probably the most popular sacramental used by Catholics. Along with the rosary and the brown scapular, it shares the special distinction of having been designed in heaven itself by the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared three times to Saint Catherine Labouré, a twenty-four-year-old novice of the Daughters of Charity in Paris, France. Our Lady revealed to him the model of a medal that she ordered to be minted, promising abundant graces to those who used it. At first it was known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, but it came to be called the Miraculous Medal as soon as the devotion spread to the whole world and wonderful spiritual and physical cures were achieved. Several popes endowed her with many indulgences.
